Who runs these tours?

Currently, there is only one person managing and running the tours. Me, Ryan! I am a local from Adelaide that knows the city inside and out. Find out more about me in 'The Guide' tab.

When do the tours run?

Tours run every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 10am. Tours start outside of Delish Espresso, 195 Victoria Square, Adelaide.

What should I wear/bring on the tour?

I recommend you wear comfortable footwear that is appropriate for a 4 km walk in the city. Adelaide is a very sunny city, I recommend wearing sunscreen and wearing a hat and sunglasses. Although mostly sunny, Adelaide does have some bad days, I recommend checking the weather forecast and if it is going to rain to bring appropriate wet weather gear i.e. a rain jacket or umbrella.

What is a ‘free tour’?

‘Free’ walking tours started in Berlin in 2004 and have now spread to over 40 cities around the world. They offer non-traditional tours to everyone from backpackers to billionaires!

How is it free?

Normal walking tours make you pay up front with a price set by the company. If the tour isn't very good, then you out the money that you paid. Free walking tours are the complete opposite, working on a tips-only basis. The tours are free to come along, and if you believe that the tour is worth your time and money then you can give a tip. I believe that if money is given, it should be voluntary and what the individual believes the tour is worth. This means that the guide has to work extremely hard to make every tour amazing! If not, then you are not out of pocket.

Where does the tour start?

The tour starts next to the Queen Victoria Statue which is located in Victoria Square. Victoria square is the centre square of Adelaide.

How long is the tour?

The tour runs for around 2 -2.5 hours but can sometimes run over time by about 10 minutes depending on group sizes. The tour covers about 4km of walking and finishes on North Terrace, about 800m from the starting point. We stop half way through the tour for a coffee break for around 15 minutes.

Are the tours ever cancelled?

The tours are rarely cancelled. They can however be cancelled due to unforseen circumstances e.g Extremely bad weather. If a tour is cancelled it will be posted on the Facebook page with a minimum of 2 hours notice.

Are there minimum or maximum amounts of people allowed on the tour?

There are no minimums for the tour. However if there are three or less I do a slightly different tour that goes for about an hour and a half which still covers everything. There is a maximum of 25 people allowed on the tour as any more than that is too many for one guide. Priority will be given to those who book via email or Facebook. If there are more than 25 people, the people who arrived the latest will unfortunately miss out that day.
